I just joined this tribe. What a great way to connect with you all. Do you speak in question? Do I?

Born in Flatbush, lived in Huntington (LI). Went to college at SUNY Stony Brook.
I even lived in Southern CA for 5 years. Been in the bay 13 years.

Boy, I really learned what a NY-er was by leaving the east coast.

Thanks for the Carvel tip in Berkeley. Now for a tip back about good food.

Connie's Cantina in Oakland by the Grand Lakes Theatre. Great Mexican food.
Connie runs the place. She's from Columbia.

You have to taste the Al Pastor (Shredded BBQ pork). It's to die for.
Her secret ingredient is coke syrup. Also, try the chicken tortilla soup.
Even her refried beans have a hint of lime that make it special.

      Thom,

I haven't had east coast egg rolls out here. Just spring rolls.
Plus, they never heard of duck sauce!

Somebody tried to tell me yeaterday that 90% of the Chinese population in California is Cantonese.

But not only is there no duck sauce thare are no Cantonese restaurants anywhere that I know of.

I just ate at the worst chinese restaurant over the Memorial Day weekend. I'm gonna rant!!

The hot and sour soup was watered down. The fried rice wasn't dark enough and it was tasteless. The sweet and sour chicken
was greasy. It must have been the worst part of the chicken.

I judge a chinese restaurant by its fried rice. How about you?

By the way, they don't call it roast pork fried rice, instead its BBQ pork fried rice. Funny.
You live and learn. I gotta stick to chinese in the city (SF). They have the best ones.

            End of rant
            Herb
